This drawing comes from Rick's pen and ink illustration series titled "Visual Activism" and was inspired by a quote from Koko, who was the gorilla known for her extraordinary mastery of sign language and the primary ambassador for her endangered species. She died in her sleep on the morning of June 19, 2018, at the Gorilla Foundation's preserve in Woodside, California, at the age of 46. Koko touched the lives of millions as an ambassador for all gorillas and an icon for interspecies communication and empathy. She was beloved and will be deeply missed.
Series 2018. Black ink on cold-pressed, heavyweight, archival watercolor paper. 6" W x 9" L. Prints of this piece available here.
